About the Susan B Anthony Dollar:

The Susan B Anthony dollar was produced from 1979 to 1981 and again in 1999 and was minted in an attempt to reduce the turnover of paper $1 bills in circulation. In 1978 President Jimmy Carter signed the Susan B. Anthony Dollar Coin Act into law. This law amended the Coinage Act of 1965, changing the size, weight, and design of the one-dollar coin. This caused to size of the dollars to be reduced to 26.5 mm which is closer to the size of a modern U.S. Washington quarter and caused some confusion with the general public as they were too similar in size. The design features a right-facing profile of Susan B Anthony on the obverse and an American eagle descending onto the moon on the reverse. The distant Earth is visible in the sky above. Despite relatively high mintages in 1979 the series was short lived and failed to gain public acceptance. In 1997, Congress passed the United States $1 Coin Act, replacing the Susan B. Anthony dollar with the golden dollar coin that are used today.
