Unlike most bullion coins, the new Spanish coins are struck in reverse proof—a process in which the coin blank is specially prepared in matte finish, while the raised designs exhibit a shiny mirrored surface, which is the opposite of traditional proof collector coins. Manufacturing is done on a manual minting machine under the strictest technical controls, piece by piece. Each coin in the series is individually encapsulated and has strictly limited mintages, including a scarce quantity of highly collectible First Strike and First Day of Issue
